Inscribed on the reverse, presumably by Gregory Bateson, with the artist's name and date of purchase: 'Id. Bg. Soenjah, Poeseh Sanoer Feb. 9.1937'.
The artist was the spiritual teacher of Ida Bagus Poegoeg. He became a priest (pedanda gede Oka Timbul) in Geria Poeseh in the 1960s, at which time he stopped working as a painter. Bateson & Mead collected thirteen works by the artist.
