Artwork auctioned at four times the upper estimate price
When the work An okubi-e (large-head portrait) of the courtesan Segawa of the Matsubaya writing on a scroll, signed Eisui ga and published by Maruya Bun'emon, silver mica ground--very good impression, lightly faded, soiled, worm holes, red ink residue on the eyebrows, by Ichirakutei Eisui was auctioned at Christies in New York in March 2001, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - USD 3,500.00 but the actual price achie However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Ichirakutei Eisui - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Matsubaya nai Yoyoharu (Yoyoharu of the House of Matsubaya), which sold at auction in March this year for USD 47,880.00 (€ 44,039.74).
Kunstwerk zum Vierfachen des oberen Schätzpreises versteigert
Als die Arbeit An okubi-e (large-head portrait) of the courtesan Segawa of the Matsubaya writing on a scroll, signed Eisui ga and published by Maruya Bun'emon, silver mica ground--very good impression, lightly faded, soiled, worm holes, red ink residue on the eyebrows, von Ichirakutei Eisui im März 2001 bei Christies in New York versteigert wurde, übertraf das Ergebnis die Erwartungen um ein Vielfaches.
