A top price for Hugo van der Goes - as previously expected
The work The descent from the cross by Hugo van der Goes was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in January 2021. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 3,000,000.00 – 5,000,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 3,350,000.00 (€ 2,760,609.81) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Even if this result could not surprise positively, The descent from the cross is the most expensive artwork by Hugo van der Goes that we have observed at auctions so far.
