Auction result well in line with expectations
In December 2011 Christies in London held the auction Old Master & British Paintings (Evening Sale), which included the work Wijdschips tacking offshore in a stiff breeze by Jeronimus van Diest. The price achieved of GBP 56,450.00 (€ 67,606.85) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 50,000.00 – 70,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Jeronimus van Diest - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The Battle Of Scheveningen, With The Naval Forces Of The Dutch Republic And The Commonwealth Of England, 10 August 1653, which sold at auction in January 2017 for USD 150,000.00 (€ 138,966.09).
