Despite a disappointment, a good price for Gustaf Brusewitz
When the work Ugolino with his children and grandchildren in hunger tower by Gustaf Brusewitz was auctioned at Bukowski in Stockholm in December 2013, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of SEK 10,000.00 – 15,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for SEK 9,000.00 (€ 1,016.33). Despite this disappointing result, Ugolino with his children and grandchildren in hunger tower is the most expensive artwork by Gustaf Brusewitz that we have observed at auction so far.
