When the work Return from pasture by Gonzalo Bilbao y Martinez was auctioned at Christies in New York in October 2001, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 7,000.00 – 10,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 6,462.50 (€ 7,186.14). Despite this disappointing result, Return from pasture is the most expensive artwork by Gonzalo Bilbao y Martinez that we have observed at auction so far.
