This artwork by Glenn Ligon achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in New York in November 2014. In the Contemporary Art Evening Auction auction, the work Untitled (I Was Somebody) sold for USD 3,973,000.00 (€ 3,194,243.45) - well above the upper estimate of USD 1,500,000.00. This high result makes Untitled (I Was Somebody) the most expensive artwork by Glenn Ligon that we have observed at auctions so far.
