Growing up in post-war Leningrad surrounded by ruins and corroded churches, Gleb Bogomolov developed a special affection for Christian-Byzantine art. Fascinated by the colors, mosaics and mysteries of this period and genre, his semi-religious, semi-architectural paintings are similarly multilayered and complex with compositions that often feature crosses, arcs, mandalas, pillars and columns. He helped organize the first non-conformist exhibition

A top price for Gleb Bogomolov - as previously expected
The work Composition In Black by Gleb Bogomolov was sold in the Escape Artists: The Non-Conformists Online auction at Sothebys in New York in October 2018. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 8,000.00 – 12,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 8,750.00 (€ 7,721.50) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Even if this result could not surprise positively, Composition In Black is the most expensive artwork by Gleb Bogomolov that we have observed at auctions so far.
