Auction result misses estimated price range
In January 2021 a collector was able to acquire the work Three Philosophers with Putti by Giovanni Benedetto Castiglione for USD 31,500.00 (€ 25,957.97). This price was achieved in the auction From Taddeo to Tiepolo: The Dr. John O’Brien Collection of Old Master Drawings at Sothebys in New York and was even below the estimate range of USD 35,000.00 – 45,000.00 set by the auction house. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Giovanni Benedetto Castiglione achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A Pagan Sacrifice in July 2000 with an auction result of GBP 971,750.00 (€ 1,571,306.96).
