In July 2000 Christies in London held the auction Old Master Pictures, which included the work Peasants resting before a riverside cottage by Gillis Rombouts. The price achieved of GBP 9,400.00 (€ 15,199.68) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 8,000.00 – 12,000.00. Even if this result could not surprise positively, Peasants resting before a riverside cottage is the most expensive artwork by Gillis Rombouts that we have observed at auctions so far.
