This artwork by Gerrit Groenewegen achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in March 2011. In the Christie's Interiors Including Paintings, Drawings & Watercolours From The Collection of The Late John Appleby auction, the work Three studies of Dutch shipping (recto) and (verso) sold for GBP 1,625.00 (€ 1,838.68) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 800.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Gerrit Groenewegen - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Gerrit Groenewegen (1754-1826), which sold at auction in November 2000 for NLG 15,212.60 (€ 7,126.86).
