The work Portrait of Tsar Alexander I by Gerhard von Kügelgen was sold in the Important Silver, Russian Works of Art and Paintings auction at Christies in London in November 2003. It achieved a price of GBP 4,780.00 (€ 6,861.76), exceeding the upper end of the estimate range by 59%. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Gerhard von Kügelgen achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait - Goethe in June 1996 with an auction result of EUR 170,516.00.
Oberer Schätzpreis um 59 % übertroffen
Die Arbeit Portrait of Tsar Alexander I von Gerhard von Kügelgen wurde im November 2003 in der Auktion Important Silver, Russian Works of Art and Paintings bei Christies in London versteigert. Sie erzielte dabei einen Preis von GBP 4.780,00 (€ 6.861,76) und übertraf damit das obere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne um 59%. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Gerhard von Kügelgen erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Portrait - Goethe im Juni 1996 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von EUR 170.516,00.
