In March 2011 Christies in London held the auction Christie's Interiors Including Paintings, Drawings & Watercolours From The Collection of The Late John Appleby, which included the work On the Lagoon, Venice by George Sherwood Hunter. The result of GBP 1,000.00 (€ 1,131.50) was exactly at the lower end of the estimate range of GBP 1,000.00 – 1,500.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by George Sherwood Hunter achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Emptying a salmon net in November 2003 with an auction result of GBP 12,547.50 (€ 18,012.12).

Das dabei erzielte Ergebnis von GBP 1.000,00 (€ 1.131,50) entsprach exakt dem unteren Ende der Schätzpreisspanne von GBP 1.000,00 – 1.500,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von George Sherwood Hunter erzielen.
