Auction result well in line with expectations
In November 2019 Christies in London held the auction China Trade Paintings: Selections from the Kelton Collection, which included the work The United States Consulate in Keechong, Shanghai, 1849 by George Robert West. The price achieved of GBP 8,125.00 (€ 9,540.74) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 7,000.00 – 10,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by George Robert West - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Shanghai Park: the spring race meeting of April 1849 taken from the top of Mr J. Grant’s house, which sold at auction in November 2019 for GBP 23,750.00 (€ 27,888.31).
