Auction result well in line with expectations
In May 2010 Phillips in New York held the auction AFRICA Theme Sale, which included the work Trying to get assistance through cellue phone by George Lilanga. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 3,000.00 – 5,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 3,500.00 (€ 2,829.65) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by George Lilanga - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Kuishi Mjini Isiwe Sababu Ya Kusaau Ulikotoka (They are discussing past stories), which sold at auction in July 2018 for USD 6,875.00 (€ 5,873.06).
