Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
In March 2004 Christies in London held the auction British and Continental Watercolours, which included the work A wreck at low tide off the south coast of the Isle of Wight (illustrated); and Fisherfolk on the foreshore by George Gregory. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 717.00 (€ 1,073.28), 20% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by George Gregory have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Running out of harbour on the tide in May 2005 with an auction result of GBP 4,800.00 (€ 7,086.31).
Oberer Schätzpreis leicht übertroffen
Im März 2004 führte Christies in London die Auktion British and Continental Watercolours durch, in der auch die Arbeit A wreck at low tide off the south coast of the Isle of Wight (illustrated); and Fisherfolk on the foreshore von George Gregory zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 717,00 (€ 1.073,28) und damit 20% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von George Gregory auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Running out of harbour on the tide im Mai 2005 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 4.800,00 (€ 7.086,31).
