This artwork by George Chambers Snr. achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in November 2006. In the British Pictures 1500-1850 auction, the work Shrimpers Off Holyhead; And Homeward Bound: A Dutch East Indiaman Firing A Salute To Announce Her Arrival As She Enters The Maas Estuary sold for GBP 19,200.00 (€ 28,512.60) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 10,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by George Chambers Snr.; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Margate sold at auction in April last year with the realized price of GBP 35,580.00 (€ 42,427.89).
