Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work A Pair Of Italianate Village Landscapes, With Peasants Making Merry In The Foreground by Franz de Paula Ferg was auctioned at Sothebys in London in April 2016, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 30,000.00 – 40,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 27,500.00 (€ 35,153.18). Admittedly, works by Franz de Paula Ferg have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work An Italianate Town With Figures Gathered Around A 'Commedia Dell'Arte' Play, A Castle On A Hill Beyond; And An Italianate Town With Figures Dancing The 'Saltarello' And Making Music in May 2006 with an auction result of EUR 150,000.00.
