This artwork by Franklin Dullin Briscoe achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in December 2010. In the Christie's Interiors auction, the work Sunset on the breakers; and a companion painting of a moonlit boat sold for USD 6,875.00 (€ 5,181.25) - well above the upper estimate of USD 3,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Franklin Dullin Briscoe; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Sunset in the Orient sold at auction in September 2007 with the realized price of USD 13,750.00 (€ 9,670.16).
