Auction result well in line with expectations
In May 2007 Christies in London held the auction Maritime & Naval Battles (Pictures), which included the work The Wild Pidgeon catting the anchor after dropping her pilot (illustrated); and The St. Paul cracking along under full canvas by Frank J. Gardiner. The price achieved of GBP 1,020.00 (€ 1,501.00) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 800.00 – 1,200.00. Other works by Frank J. Gardiner have already achieved higher auction prices, for example, in July 2003 the work The American Clipper Abner Coburn was auctioned for USD 1,912.00 (€ 1,553.21).
