Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by François-Joseph Bélanger achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in Paris in May 2020. In the Dessins Anciens et du XIXème siècle auction, the work Étude de décor mural avec sphinge, putti ailés, oiseaux et arabesques sold for EUR 25,000.00 - well above the upper estimate of EUR 12,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by François-Joseph Bélanger; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Projet Pour Le Château D'Artois À Saint-Germain-En-Laye sold at auction in March 2016 with the realized price of EUR 26,000.00.
