A top price for Félicien Rops
When the work Belgian Le Calvair (Les Sataniques) by Félicien Rops was auctioned at Sothebys in London in November 2007, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - GBP 35,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than four times as high at GBP 162,500.00 (€ 227,542.04). This high result makes Belgian Le Calvair (Les Sataniques) the most expensive artwork by Félicien Rops that we have observed at auctions so far.
