Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Grapes, Peaches and a classically inspired Pitcher on a Marble Relief depicting classical Figures under an Italianate arch in a country Landscape by Emmanuel Fries was auctioned at Christies in New York in April 2003, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 25,000.00 – 35,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 23,900.00 (€ 19,462.54). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Emmanuel Fries - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Vase De Fleurs Et Panier Sur Un Entablement De Marbre, which sold at auction in June 2010 for EUR 51,150.00.
