Max Paul von Bleichert, Zurich (by 1929; Bleichert (Leipzig 1877-1938 Zurich) and his brother managed Adolf Bleichert & Co., until the 1920s one of the world's largest cable car manufacturers. He also amassed a large collection of art including works by Carl Spitzweg, Wilhlem Leibl, Hans Thoma, Franz von Stuck, Max Liebermann, among others); thence by descent to the present owner

In July last year Sothebys in London held the auction European & British Art, Part I, which included the work The Apple Orchard by Emile Claus. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 144,900.00 (€ 173,036.34), 61% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Emile Claus - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Vue sur Murano, lueur du couchant, which sold at auction in February 2018 for GBP 596,750.00 (€ 674,111.01).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 61 % übertroffen
Im Juli letzten Jahres führte Sothebys in London die Auktion European & British Art, Part I durch, in der auch die Arbeit The Apple Orchard von Emile Claus zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 144.900,00 (€ 173.036,34) und damit 61% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Für andere Arbeiten von Emile Claus mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Vue sur Murano, lueur du couchant beobachtet, die im Februar 2018 für GBP 596.750,00 (€ 674.111,01) versteigert wurde.
