Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portrait of Emma Hart, later Lady Hamilton (1765-1815), as the Cumaen Sibyl by Élisabeth-Louise Vigée Le Brun was sold in the Old Masters Evening Sale auction at Christies in London in July 2019. The price achieved of GBP 587,250.00 (€ 644,761.46) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 500,000.00 – 800,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Élisabeth-Louise Vigée Le Brun - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Portrait of the artist, bust-length, which sold at auction in October 2017 for USD 1,512,500.00 (€ 1,298,506.18).
