Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
In September 2005 Christies in London held the auction Travel and Natural History, which included the work Views of India' including; Sultanganj; Chunarghur (illustrated); and Hindu temple by Edward Hawke Locker. Here, the upper estimate of GBP 2,000.00 was slightly exceeded - the artwork found a new owner for GBP 2,040.00 (€ 2,993.85). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Edward Hawke Locker - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Views of southern India including; St. Thomé Chapel, Madras; View on the road from St. Thomé Chapel to Brodie Castle; and Muslim buildings near Madras (illustrated), which sold at auction in September 2000 for GBP 5,875.00 (€ 9,830.67).
