This artwork by Derk Wiggers achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in Amsterdam in June 2005. In the Pictures Watercolours and Drawings auction, the work Op Ameland: A Windmill Near A Village On The Island of Ameland sold for EUR 2,160.00 - well above the upper estimate of EUR 1,200.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Derk Wiggers; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot A harbour scene sold at auction in January 2001 with the realized price of NLG 6,462.50 (€ 2,827.86).
