Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Britannia leading the fleet having rounded the turning mark, with the crew of Candida dropping her spinnaker as she approaches, and Lulworth and Shamrock running downwind towards the mark by David Brackman was auctioned at Christies in London in October 2007. The price achieved of GBP 13,700.00 (€ 19,674.10) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 12,000.00 – 18,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by David Brackman - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work H.M.S. Victory , a bow view, breaking the enemy line at the Battle of Trafalgar, 21 October 1805, which sold at auction in July 2016 for GBP 64,900.00 (€ 77,115.24).
