engraving, 1549, on laid paper, without watermark, a very good impression of this rare print, trimmed to or just inside the borderline, a portion of the left sheet edge probably very skilfully remargined, a skilfully repaired paper split on Venus's belly, very pale time staining, otherwise in good condition

The work Venus and Cupid by Cornelis Massys was sold in the Old Master Prints auction at Christies in New York in January 2019. It achieved a price of USD 1,500.00 (€ 1,309.59), exceeding the upper end of the estimate range by 50%. Admittedly, works by Cornelis Massys have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Reisende vor einer Hafenstadt. in September 2013 with an auction result of CHF 9,000.00 (€ 7,354.27).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 50 % übertroffen
Die Arbeit Venus and Cupid von Cornelis Massys wurde im Januar 2019 in der Auktion Old Master Prints bei Christies in New York versteigert. Sie erzielte dabei einen Preis von USD 1.500,00 (€ 1.309,59) und übertraf damit das obere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne um 50%. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Cornelis Massys auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Reisende vor einer Hafenstadt. im September 2013 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von CHF 9.000,00 (€ 7.354,27).
