This artwork by Clementine Hunter achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in January this year. In the Outsider and Vernacular Art auction, the work Funeral sold for USD 18,900.00 (€ 17,406.52) - well above the upper estimate of USD 9,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Clementine Hunter; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Clementine In Her Flower Garden, 1984 sold at auction in January 2021 with the realized price of USD 32,500.00 (€ 26,782.04).
