Auction result well in line with expectations
In May last year Sothebys in New York held the auction Master Paintings, which included the work Portrait of a gentleman by Charles Wautier. The price achieved of USD 47,880.00 (€ 44,618.40) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 40,000.00 – 60,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Charles Wautier - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Portrait of Baron Evrard de Fourneau de Cruyckenbourg (b. 1641) as a youth, wearing the order of the Knights of Malta, which sold at auction in January last year for USD 189,000.00 (€ 168,569.39).
