Auction result well in line with expectations
In March 2017 Christies in London held the auction Victorian, Pre-Raphaelite & British Impressionist Art, Maritime Art, Sporting & Wildlife Art, which included the work Dutch merchantman and a pink in congested waters by Charles Martin Powell. The price achieved of GBP 6,250.00 (€ 7,324.38) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 5,000.00 – 7,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Charles Martin Powell - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A Dutch Merchantman And Other Shipping Passing A British Frigate Anchored Off The Dutch Coast, which sold at auction in November 2001 for GBP 15,275.00 (€ 24,307.34).
