In February 2004 a collector was able to acquire the work Columbia racing; Columbia vs. Shamrock; A New York Yacht Club members trial race prior to 1898 by Charles E. Bolles for USD 1,195.00 (€ 960.53). This price was achieved in the auction Maritime at Christies in New York and was even below the estimate range of USD 1,500.00 – 2,500.00 set by the auction house. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Charles E. Bolles - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The Hattie Palmer towing Colonia and Defender, which sold at auction in July 2002 for USD 2,151.00 (€ 2,195.79).
