Auction result well in line with expectations
In March 2018 Sothebys in London held the auction Modern & Contemporary African Art, which included the work South Africanking And Two Councillors by Cecil Skotnes. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 15,000.00 – 20,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 16,250.00 (€ 18,501.52) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Cecil Skotnes - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Shaka Zulu, which sold at auction in May 2019 for USD 43,825.00 (€ 39,308.46).
