A top price for Carl Wentorf - as previously expected

The work Portrait of Mrs H. Wichfeld (1849-1907), quarter-length, in a brown suit and green hat, a woodland beyond; and Portrait of E. Wichfeld Esq., quarter-length, in a white lace dress with a yellow rose by Carl Wentorf was sold in the British, Continental & Russian Pictures auction at Christies in London in October 2007. The result of GBP 1,000.00 (€ 1,436.07) was exactly at the lower end of the estimate range of GBP 1,000.00 – 1,500.00. Even if this result could not surprise positively, Portrait of Mrs H. Wichfeld (1849-1907), quarter-length, in a brown suit and green hat, a woodland beyond; and Portrait of E. Wichfeld Esq., quarter-length, in a white lace dress with a yellow rose is the most expensive artwork by Carl Wentorf that we have observed at auctions so far.
