The work The Origin of Painting, or Dibutade tracing the profile of the shepherd; and The Origin of Sculpture, or Pygmalion and Galatea by Jean-Baptiste Regnault was worth GBP 49,250.00 (€ 59,217.58) to a buyer in July 2010. This price was achieved in the auction Living with Design: The Collections of Walter Lees and Mr NC. at Christies in London and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of GBP 12,000.00 many times over. Admittedly, works by Jean-Baptiste Regnault have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Venus And Adonis in January 2015 with an auction result of USD 293,000.00 (€ 259,521.70).
