signed and dated 'A.E. Mulready./1893' (lower right) and further signed, inscribed and dated 'This picture should not be Varnished if/varnished at all for at least 12 month from/present date- Glass may be placed over/the flat of the frame before the picture if desired-/No oil painting should be turned with its face from/the light in the dark as it tones the colour lowering/the lights- March 1893. Title given by myself/ "I've for my Stock asked but a Penny/

It changed hands for a price of GBP 1,875.00 (€ 2,256.31) achieving a result in the upper range of the estimate price range of GBP 1,500.00 – 2,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Augustus Edwin Mulready achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Little Spys in October 2002 with an auction result of USD 22,705.00 (€ 22,978.44).
