Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
In November 2007 Sothebys in London held the auction 19th Century Paintings including Spanish Painting and Symbolism & the Poetic Vision, which included the work Swiss Medusenhaupt (A Shield With The Head Of Medusa) by Arnold Böcklin. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 74,900.00 (€ 104,879.38), 25% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by Arnold Böcklin have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Die Nacht, 1870 in December 2008 with an auction result of CHF 1,176,000.00 (€ 791,575.83).
Oberer Schätzpreis leicht übertroffen
Im November 2007 führte Sothebys in London die Auktion 19th Century Paintings including Spanish Painting and Symbolism & the Poetic Vision durch, in der auch die Arbeit Swiss Medusenhaupt (A Shield With The Head Of Medusa) von Arnold Böcklin zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 74.900,00 (€ 104.879,38) und damit 25% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Arnold Böcklin auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Die Nacht, 1870 im Dezember 2008 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von CHF 1.176.000,00 (€ 791.575,83).
