Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work 'Cathedral Peak from Domes Near Tenaya Lake' by Ansel Adams was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in February last year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 15,000.00 – 25,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 11,970.00 (€ 10,664.65). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Ansel Adams achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Grand Tetons and the Snake River, Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming in December 2020 with an auction result of USD 988,000.00 (€ 807,849.55).
