Acrylic on paper over orgalit with spacecraft overlaid onto background and glazed over, 11 by 14 ¼ inches (sight), matted, glazed and framed to 22 ½ by 26 inches. Verso signed in Russian "А К СОКОЛОВ" [A.K. Sokolov], with other notations in Russian, as well as some geometric sketches in pencil.

Auction result well in line with expectations
The work In Orbit Around The Moon, Circa 1971 by Andrei Sokolov was sold in the Space Exploration auction at Sothebys in New York in November 2018. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 2,500.00 – 3,500.00, the actual price achieved of USD 2,750.00 (€ 2,428.68) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Andrei Sokolov - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work [Saturn On Titan, Circa 1959|AID316156], which sold at auction in November 2018 for USD 6,250.00 (€ 5,519.74).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Die Arbeit In Orbit Around The Moon, Circa 1971 von Andrei Sokolov wurde im November 2018 in der Auktion Space Exploration bei Sothebys in New York versteigert. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 2.500,00 – 3.500,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von USD 2.750,00 (€ 2.428,68) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Für andere Arbeiten von Andrei Sokolov mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit [Saturn On Titan, Circa 1959|AID316156] beobachtet, die im November 2018 für USD 6.250,00 (€ 5.519,74) versteigert wurde.
