etching, 1647, on laid paper, watermark Phoenix in a Wreath (Godefroy 33), a very fine, luminous impression of the rare sixth state (of ten), printing with a light plate tone and inky plate edges, with small margins, in very good condition

Auction result well in line with expectations
In July last year Christies in London held the auction Old Master and British Works on Paper: Drawings, Watercolours and Prints 1500-1900, which included the work The Barn by Adriaen van Ostade. The price achieved of GBP 3,528.00 (€ 4,213.06) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Adriaen van Ostade achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work De Drinker: Three boors drinking and smoking in a spirit house in December 2002 with an auction result of GBP 1,051,650.00 (€ 1,614,335.41).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Im Juli letzten Jahres führte Christies in London die Auktion Old Master and British Works on Paper: Drawings, Watercolours and Prints 1500-1900 durch, in der auch die Arbeit The Barn von Adriaen van Ostade zur Versteigerung kam. Der dabei erzielte Preis von GBP 3.528,00 (€ 4.213,06) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit GBP 3.000,00 – 5.000,00 angegeben worden. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Adriaen van Ostade erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit De Drinker: Three boors drinking and smoking in a spirit house im Dezember 2002 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 1.051.650,00 (€ 1.614.335,41).
