In October 2000 Christies in London held the auction OLD MASTER PICTURES, which included the work Portrait of Auguste Vestris, three-quarter-length, in a dark grey velvet jacket and a fur hat, a cane in his right hand, standing before a landscape by Adèle Romany. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 16,450.00 (€ 28,117.75), 37% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Adèle Romany - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Portrait d'Amélie-Justine et de Charles-Edouard Pontois, which sold at auction in June 2008 for EUR 90,500.00.
