Auction result well in line with expectations
In December 2003 Christies in London held the auction Important Gold Boxes,Objects of Vertu & Portrait Miniatures, which included the work A gentleman, in red velvet coat with gold embroidery, white waistcoat and lace cravat, powdered hair en queue by Adélaïde Labille-Guiard. The price achieved of GBP 956.00 (€ 1,354.05) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 800.00 – 1,200.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Adélaïde Labille-Guiard achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait Of The Duchesse D'Aiguillon (1770-1814) in June 2018 with an auction result of EUR 657,000.00.
