The chemical symbol for Gold on the periodic table of elements is AU. This symbol is a tribute to the Latin word, aurum, loosely translated "glowing dawn" which was used to describe gold in Ancient Rome.

The sea was named after Tethys, who, in ancient Greek mythology, was a sea goddess, a mother of the sea nymphs and of the world’s great rivers, lakes and fountains.
All around the periphery of the Tethys Ocean​/​Sea were continental shelves, parts of Earth's continents submerged under shallow seas. In the balmy waters, these shelves would have been home to sprawling reef ecosystems, bristling with color and diversity. The Tethys Ocean was very likely full of corals.
