Artwork auctioned at six times the upper estimate price
The work Portrait of Virginia Woolf by Vanessa Bell was worth GBP 163,800.00 (€ 190,289.01) to a buyer in June last year. This price was achieved in the auction Modern British Day Auction at Sothebys in London and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of GBP 25,000.00 many times over. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Vanessa Bell; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Autumn Bouquet sold at auction in March 2021 with the realized price of GBP 256,250.00 (€ 301,027.74).
