Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Orpheus attacked by the Maenads of Ciconia: a bozzetto by Valerio Castello was sold in the OLD MASTER PICTURES auction at Christies in London in April 2003. The price achieved of GBP 11,950.00 (€ 15,570.03) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 10,000.00 – 15,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Valerio Castello achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Holy Family With The Infant St John The Baptist in July 2009 with an auction result of GBP 169,250.00 (€ 192,048.02).

Der dabei erzielte Preis von GBP 11.950,00 (€ 15.570,03) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit GBP 10.000,00 – 15.000,00 angegeben worden. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Valerio Castello erzielen.
