Auction result well in line with expectations
In May 2001 Christies in London held the auction BRITISH AND CONTINENTAL WATERCOLOURS AND DRAWINGS, which included the work Figures and a dog on a country lane by Thomas Smythe. It changed hands for a price of GBP 329.00 (€ 551.58) achieving a result in the upper range of the estimate price range of GBP 250.00 – 350.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Thomas Smythe achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The dining chair sledge in June 2004 with an auction result of GBP 10,994.00 (€ 16,362.37).

Dabei wechselte sie für einen Preis von GBP 329,00 (€ 551,58) den Besitzer und erzielte damit ein Ergebnis im oberen Bereich der Schätzpreisspanne von GBP 250,00 – 350,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Thomas Smythe erzielen.
