THE DORMITION OF THE VIRGIN
RUSSIAN, LATE 18TH CENTURY
The Virgin is attended by the apostles. The story of Jeremiah is represented in front of the bier. The sides of the panel are occupied by two bishops and female onlookers. The panel is painted with saturated colours, the pleats and haloes are rendered in gold and the foliate architectural ornament is accentuated with white brushstrokes, which are typical of the Mstera School of painting. - 12 x 14in.
