This artwork by Takashi Murakami achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in Hong Kong in September 2020. In the Contemporary Art | Hong Kong auction, the work Homage To Director Hideaki Anno: Godzilla Resurgence & Evangelion sold for HKD 44,100.00 (€ 4,854.84) - well above the upper estimate of HKD 24,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Takashi Murakami achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work My Lonesome Cowboy in May 2008 with an auction result of USD 15,161,000.00 (€ 9,743,573.26).
