In March 2004 Christies in London held the auction British and Victorian including Scottish Paintings, which included the work Guarding the flock by Robert Watson. The price achieved of GBP 4,780.00 (€ 7,155.22) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 4,000.00 – 6,000.00. Other works by Robert Watson have already achieved higher auction prices, for example, in April 2007 the work Highland Cattle; and Highland Sheep was auctioned for USD 13,200.00 (€ 9,663.25).

Der dabei erzielte Preis von GBP 4.780,00 (€ 7.155,22) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit GBP 4.000,00 – 6.000,00 angegeben worden. Andere Arbeiten von Robert Watson konnten bereits höhere Auktionspreise erzielen, so wurde im April 2007 die Arbeit Highland Cattle; and Highland Sheep für USD 13.200,00 (€ 9.663,25) versteigert.
